Do You Really Need to Take That Back to College? Here’s What You Can Store

27 August 2018

Summer is sadly coming to an end in just a few short weeks, which means unfortunately ( or fortunately) it is time for back to school prep! Specifically, college students will soon need to organize their belongings in an effort to get situated on campus or in their new home for the school year. This involves a lot more than simply shopping for pens, paper, and  close, which means it’s time for college students to move back to school.

For many students, particularly those that live far away from their school may benefit from the use of a self-storage unit. Why? This extra space will help limit clutter at home and provide a convenient, practical and cost-effective solution for storage. Most storage facilities offer units that differ in size, but the biggest benefit is that they allow you to keep items you may not have room for in your current residence, until you can retrieve them at a better time. Transporting items long distance, that you may or may not even use is only a hassle and will cost you more time and money than it’s worth.

Storage units vary in size and are a great way to keep belongings safe without having to transport them long distances.

Here are some of our recommendations when it comes to what you should consider bringing to school and what belongings you may want to keep stored in a safe and secure storage unit.

Prior to making your move for school, consider packing the following with you:

  • Appliances: coffee makers , toasters, and refrigerators
  • Fragile kitchenware.
  • Furniture (e.g., futons, couches, desks and chairs).
  • Electronics: television, fans or game console
  • Textbooks and school supplies
  • Mattress

Many storage companies such as All-Stor will also provide students with the necessary packing supplies needed to properly protect items from damage. For additional convenience? We will help you pack and move your items to your home away from home! We have all of the moving and storage solutions you need for a successful transition.

What Should You Store Away for the School Year

You may need a certain sized storage unit to hold your possessions, based on whether you live on campus or close to. Feel free to reach out to us for assistance with choosing a storage unit that is appropriate for your situation and budget. This will help you save on costs, as you will only pay for exactly what you need. We won’t try to sell you anything more.

Items you may not need with you and could store in your unit include:

  • Furniture: couches, tables, or futons that won’t fit comfortably in your living space.
  • Blankets: unless needed, keep them in your unit until weather is cooler.
  • Seasonal clothing: Any clothing and accessories you can do without for the next couple of months.
  • Seasonal equipment: why not store bikes, sports equipment, shovels and rakes during the offseason.

Students can also think about whether they’d like to take advantage of our climate controlled storage units, which ultimately works to protect temperature sensitive items like furniture, leather, and electronics from moisture, harsh temperatures and sunlight.

Moving to and from school can be a busy and stressful process for students; however, a self-storage unit can ensure a smooth and worry-free transition, giving you the option to store belongings away for as long as you need to.
